FOR THE SUPPORT OF THE MOVIE PRODUCTION "KAPODISTRIAS"

Creation of director Yiannis Smaragdis

September 2024

Would Greece be different if Kapodistrias were not assassinated? What was Kapodistrias's secret plan for Greece – as revealed by the records of his mortal rival, Metternich? Why still today the British Foreign Office keeps the file on Kaspodistrias’ assassination classified?  Is this secret plan the reason some today are undermining the film and criticizing it before it's even finished? These are just a few of the questions that will be answered in the movie "Kapodistrias".

This film is the latest creation of the award winning and academic in Europe, director Yiannis Smaragdis ("El Greco", "God Loves Caviar", "Kazantzakis" among many other creations).

The script was edited by Eleni Smaragdis who completed it (on its 52nd writing!!) before her death. Eleni believed that this will be her director husband's best film. It is dedicated to her. As well as our great music composer, the official NASA composer, Vangelis Papathanasiou.

And finally, the film will be dedicated to the superb patriot of the Omogenia of New York, Nikos Mouyaris.

"Yianni, let's move forward as quickly as possible with our Kapodistrias... Let's make it and have everything we need. Tell us what we need..." Nikos Mouyiaris had confessed in an email to Yannis Smaragdis shortly before his last breath...

The film has started shooting since the beginning of 2024 which is 25-30% complete. And they continue..

FINANCIAL SHORTAGES

Many generous and patriotic Greeks, individuals and businesses or organizations, have donated generously for the film: ERT, NOVA and it has the support of EKOME, and sponsors are the KIKPE Foundation, the KARATZI Group S.A., the LEMPIDAKI Group , SAITI Group, DEI etc.

But the $5.5 million budget is about $1.5 million short.

IMPORTANT POINTS

1) Kapodistrias had a plan for Greece – which will be seen in the film. This is the result of extensive historical research in Metternich's archives.

2) The film will be shown - like the director's previous one, "Kazantzakis" - in the beautiful hall of the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York.

3) The excellent actor who plays Kapodistrias, Antonis Myriagos, appeared as if by a miracle… Quite as unexpected were the positive developments in many other matters.

4) The film will be conciliatory. It will seek to heal the greatest flaw of the Greeks, the internal strife and division.

5) "There wasn't a single day on set where someone didn't cry..."
